When an insurance company has questions about a claim you submitted, the insurance company will demand that you sit for an examination under oath, often abbreviated as “EUO”. The EUO process can be daunting.
Typically, the insurance company hires a lawyer who questions you under oath in the presence of a court reporter. The questioning can last a few hours or even all day depending on the complexity of the claim. The scope of questioning may include your background, relationship to others involved in the claim, your finances, social media, phone records, and other related documents involved.
Whether an insurance company pays your claim after an EUO depends on the facts of each claim as well as the evidence. However, failing to prepare for an EUO may result in you scrambling to recall facts or inadvertently leave out crucial information.
Getting a lawyer to represent you during an examination under oath may help provide assistance in preparing to give testimony, help you think through answers to anticipated questions so that you can be prepared to give truthful and complete responses, protect your rights, and provide general guidance through the claims process.
